An Arizona high school baseball team forfeited the state championship game Wednesday rather than face an opponent whose squad featured a black* player.

That's according to the Arizona Republic, which explains Our Lady of Sorrows Academy‚ÄĒa school run by an offshoot traditionalist Catholic sect‚ÄĒbalked at competing on the same field as Mesa Prep, whose team includes a black* player. "I respect their views, but it's a bit out of the 18th century," said Mesa Prep athletic director Amy Arnold. Mesa Prep only has 11 players, so forcing one to sit the bench in the championship was not a reasonable option. Both teams play in the Arizona Charter Athletic Association, an integrated league.

The Republic reports Our Lady of Sorrows pulled out of a flag football tournament earlier this year because some teams had black* players.
