Dustin Brown Should Either Be Suspended For Zero Games Or For All The Games
Late in the first overtime, LA's Dustin Brown took down Phoenix's Michal Roszival at the blue line. Roszival was hurt; the Coyotes were angry; there was no penalty called. Twelve seconds later, Dustin Penner scored. Game, series, conference.
But we were not done, oh no. The Coyotes were furious about the no-call, turning the handshake line into a gantlet of verbal abuse. And goalie Mike Smith has some advice for Brendan Shanahan this morning:
"If Raffi Torres gets 25 games for his hit during the play then this guy (Brown) ought to be done forever."
Forever is a long time, especially for a play on which I'm not really sure what penalty you could have even called. The offsides whistle blew a split second before the hit, Brown never left his feet, and it was just as much thigh-on-thigh as it was knee-on-knee. And of course, not that it should matter but it always seems to, Roszival's head was down. Brown was a bit circumspect in his own analysis of the hubbub:
"It is an emotional game out there," Brown said. "You give them the benefit of the doubt. Their season just ended and they're upset and emotions can boil over."
And for what it's worth, there were a couple "ejections" last night. Both Smith and Shane Doan were given game misconducts for complaining to the refs after the final whistle.
