NAIA Allows Thunder Fan To Keep $20,000 Prize From Halfcourt Shot
Good news! This is no longer bullshit.
Last month, Cameron Rodriguez sank a halfcourt shot at an Oklahoma City Thunder game and won $20,000. Neat! However, Rodriguez is a basketball player at Southwestern College, which meant the NAIA had to review whether or not Rodriguez could keep the money without forfeiting his $4,000 scholarship and one full academic year. It seemed dumb, because halfcourt shot contestants were chosen at random, and it wasn't like Rodriguez was hustling NBA halftime breaks as a side career.
Today, the NAIA ruled in favor of common sense, granting an exception and allowing Rodriguez to keep the money for use as a scholarship, a ruling Rodriguez supported. Good job, everyone.
