High School Team Pulls Off Game-Winning Kick Return After Fans Had Already Rushed The Field
A Thanksgiving rivalry game between Lynn Classical and Lynn English (Mass.) ended on a game-winning lateral kick return by Lynn Classical. This happened after Lynn English fans had already rushed the field, thinking their team had won the game.
With eight seconds remaining in the game, Lynn English scored a go-ahead touchdown, and then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff. With three seconds left and Lynn English in possession of the ball and the lead, fans rushed the field to celebrate. But Lynn English was called for a penalty before the fumble recovery, and so the kickoff had to be replayed. A few seconds later, Lynn Classical was running the ball into the end zone and stealing the victory.
