Man Drops Pruning Shears, Falls Eyesocket-First Onto Pruning Shears
Here is how this awful awful gross awful thing happened: an 86-year-old Arizona man dropped his pruning shears, which landed pointy-side down. Bending to pick them up, he lost his balance and went face-first into them.
The handle went through his eye socket and came to rest in his neck, resting on his carotid artery.
"You wouldn't believe your eyes," said Julie Wynne, a trauma surgeon who was part of the team that operated on Luetscher. "Half of the pruning shears was sticking out and the other half was in his head."
Modern medicine in action: the man now suffers only from eyelid swelling and minor double vision.
