Redskins OL Trent Williams Will Miss The Pro Bowl Because A Nightclub Patron Tasered Him And Cracked A Bottle On His Head
Yesterday, the Vikings announced that Matt Kalil would be taking over for Redskins offensive lineman Trent Williams in this Sunday's Pro Bowl. The Vikings couldn't supply any details and, as the Pro Bowl is an especially inessential exhibition, some speculated that Williams was merely resting from injuries incurred during the regular season and playoffs. When rumors circulated that Williams had, in fact, been involved in a fight in a Honolulu nightclub, it seemed logical to assume that Williams, who is 6-5, 325 pounds and owns a painting of himself as a silverback gorilla, was the aggressor. Who else would have the stones? Someone with a Taser at a nightclub, that's who:
According to two people with knowledge of the situation, Williams had been involved in a nightclub incident that required police involvement. The 6-foot-5, 325-pound Williams was injured in the incident when someone cracked a bottle over his head and Tasered him. Williams required stitches.
According to a statement released by the Honolulu Police Department, the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday. Three men were injured in the altercation, and one male was arrested. Williams is not considered a suspect.
One person with knowledge of the situation said that Williams received seven stitches.
The NFL, in a statement released Friday night, said Williams "was the victim of an assault at a nightclub in central Honolulu early this morning and another individual has been arrested. Due to an injury sustained during the assault, he will not play in the Pro Bowl and has been replaced by Matt Kalil. Trent is still a member of this year's NFC All-Star team and will be on the sidelines this Sunday wearing his jersey. He will be credited with a Pro Bowl appearance and receive a full player's share."
If only Richard Sherman had been permitted to play with his Taser and a beer bottle, this incident may have turned out a bit differently.
