Scary Morning In Indianapolis
Early this morning a series of gunshots were fired into the car of Indiana Pacers guard Jamaal Tinsley wounding Joey Qatato, the team's equipment manager. The Indy Star has the full story.
Thompson said the incident began at a club called "Cloud 9" on West 38th Street. A group was giving members of Tinsley's crew a hard time about the expensive cars they were driving - a Mercedes, Rolls Royce and a Dodge Charger - and the amount of money they made.
Tinsley's group left the club but realized that they were being followed by a gray Chrysler and a dark pickup truck, Thompson said, so they pulled into the Conrad instead of going home.
The shooting began after they reached the hotel, police said. The Rolls Royce was struck by several bullets. The Charger also was struck and was found to have five bullet holes, Thompson said.
Apparently Qatato has already been released from the hospital, so the good news is that nobody was seriously hurt. It's scary to think that there are so many armed young men out there who feel compelled to start up shit with professional athletes. Sure, you're going to attract attention when you roll to the club with an entourage and three flashy cars, but that doesn't mean the guy was looking for any trouble.
Indy Cornrows has the definitive take from the blogosphere.
There just aren't enough facts to comment on any of this, other than it won't help with the apathetic fans around town that the Pacers are trying to lure back to the Fieldhouse. Before you jump to conclusions about Tinsley and his character, remember, all we have right now is a group tracking down Tins and friends and firing on him. Please don't tell me he shouldn't be at a club, that's simply ridiculous.
I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this during the week when ESPN runs out of NFL highlights.
