Soccer Player Scores, Celebrates, Falls Into Giant Hole In The Ground
Coritiba hosted São Paulo yesterday in Brazil's Série A, and Coritiba beat that ass, defeating São Paulo, 3-1, with Coritiba forward Joel scoring two goals. But that's not why we're here. We're hear to talk about what happened after Joel scored his second goal.
Because after Joel was played through on goal, rounded the keeper, and got his lil' brace, Joel proceeded to celebrate. He ran past the goal toward the corner flag, jumped over an ad board, and then ... disappeared.
The stadium Couto Pereira has stairs behind the goal that leads to the dressing rooms below, and during last night's game, for some reason, someone thought it would be a good idea to drape a Coritiba flag over it. When security saw Joel approach to jump, they kinda half-assedly tried to warn him that he was about to fall into a novelty-sized gaping pit, but he ignored them, leapt, and crashed through the flag and to his demise.
The good news is that he emerged some seconds later, and after walking off some knocks, joined play again to applause from the crowd. The bad news is that the referee was waiting for Joel, too, and gave the striker a yellow card for excessive celebration.
