This Is Rapidly Becoming Anti-Climactic
This image was lost some time after publication. The Yankees are in the process of ghetto-stomping the Red Sox again today, probably ensuring victory in the five-game series, and sort of letting the air out of the build-up for the series. The game was tied heading into the top of the 6th, until the Red Sox walked in two runs, and then gave up a three-run triple to Jorge Posada. The Yankes are currently leading 13-5 in the top of the 8th.
I'm glad the hype for this series was a lot of fun, because the series itself isn't looking all that exciting. No fights, no outstanding storylines, not even a lot of atmosphere in Fenway. Today, it was just quiet. And it's not impossible that the Sox can come back and and salvage a game or two from the series, but at some point, they're going to have to prove that they can hold the Yankees to single digits.
It may be a little early to start throwing dirt on the Red Sox 2006 grave, but it wouldn't hurt to have the shovels ready to go. They're under .500 since the All-Star break, and they're not showing any signs of being able to compete against the Yankees, not even in their own building.
Peter Gammons was in the house today, though. That was nice.
