Welcome To The Metrodome. Here's Some Hair
This image was lost some time after publication. Proving once again that the line between minor league and major league promotions is getting blurrier by the minute, Minnesota Twins fans donned synthetic facial hair on Thursday during Joe Mauer Sideburn Night in the team's game with the Toronto Blue Jays. The first 10,000 fans arriving at the Metrodome received replica Mauer sideburns, complete with double-sided tape to allow for easy facial attachment; or, you know, wherever else you might want to affix synthetic hair. A building filled with Deadwood extras is not a bad thing, we suppose, and it's certainly more dignified than the antics of Franken Friar. But are the majors gettting a little too cutesy with their promotional gimmicks? How long before the Yankees start giving out Whoopee Cushions? Actually, that might be fun. By the way, this may be the last we see of fake hair in the Metrodome. Mauer, a St. Paul native who entered the game hitting .365, was 0-for-4 as the Twins lost to the Blue Jays 5-0.
