What's The Favorite Alcoholic Beverage Of Boozy ER Patients?
Alcohol can make people do dumb, painful things. A study at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health aimed to figure out specifically what alcohol most often leads to those dumb, painful things happening.
Researchers from the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth surveyed 105 respondents—73 of them male, 72 of them African-American—at an emergency room in East Baltimore in 2010 and 2011 and found that malt liquor is a top contributor to the reported drunk injuries. Specifically, Steel Reserve, Colt 45, King Cobra and Bud Ice were mentioned by 46% of participants that admitted to drinking beer before going to the hospital.
Unsurprisingly, Budweiser and Bud Light placed in the top five. Barton's, a disgustingly cheap vodka, was also near the top of the list. Is it really a shocker that malt liquor and bottom-shelf booze are the top stupid fuels for people who hurt themselves, though?
