Germany Explodes In Orgy Of Vuvuzela Violence
First a man pummels a police officer with a vuvuzela. Then a US Army employee stationed in Germany threatens to kill his neighbors with an ax if they don't stop blowing those damn horns. Something's got to give.
The vuvuzela has really caught on in Germany, where perhaps it reminds them of the delightful yet forceful flügelhorn. So, of the crowd that gathered in Dinslaken to watch the Mannschaft's match against Ghana Wednesday, more than a few were wielding plastic horns. But, as the crowds in South Africa have shown, it's far too easy to use vuvuzelas for evil instead of good.
One drunk fan confronted a police officer who was directing traffic.
As he turned to the 20-year-old, the man suddenly began hitting and kicking the officer," the statement said. "Furthermore he began pounding the officer's head with a vuvuzela."
The officer was rendered incapable for duty by "severe injuries" to his head, the statement added.
Do we give the fan credit for splurging on a high quality horn, capable of handing out beatings, instead of a shitty plastic toy? No, we do not. But at least he didn't go after anyone with a goddamn ax.
More proof that Germans and vuvuzelas don't mix, or at least alcohol and vuvuzelas, comes from Weiden, where overzealous vuvuzela-wielding fans couldn't shut up, even for a match that didn't involve Germany. A civilian employed by the US Army stationed nearby had had just about enough:
Police in the Bavarian city of Weiden said Friday the 45-year-old man confronted his neighbors during Thursday's Netherlands-Cameroon World Cup game wielding the ax.
They said he was so sick of the constant buzzing and honking from the vuvuzelas since the tournament began that he screamed: "I will kill you," and then returned home.
He did not end up killing anyone, but had he gone through with it, he should fight tooth and nail to get extradited to another country. Outside of Germany, murder due to vuvuzela use is no longer a prosecutable offense.
