Nyjer Morgan Is Trying His Damnedest To Engage Albert Pujols In A Middle School Fight
Just about a month ago, we heard from the local broadcast crews as they reacted to the last Brewers-Cardinals skirmish (they were predictably biased). Last night, the two teams clashed again, and loveable kite enthusiast Nyjer Morgan was—predictably—at the center of it all.
Morgan (or maybe it's just his alter-ego, Tony Plush) is a known trash-talker. After Chris Carpenter struck him out in the ninth inning last night, Morgan stared him down and threw a wad of chewing tobacco toward the mound. Albert Pujols immediately ran off of first base to back up his pitcher. The benches cleared, there was some lame yelling and a few shoves, and later, from the dugout, Morgan declared to the umpires that Pujols "said it first." Yes, he went there. Later in the night, he took to his Twitter account to carry on the lunchroom back-and-forth:
" Where still n 1st and I hope those crying birds injoy watching tha Crew in that playoffs!!! Aaaaahhhhh!!!"
" Alberta couldn't see Plush if she had her gloves on!!! Wat was she thinking running afta Plush!!! She never been in tha ring!!!"
" Ray Charles to the haters! Ahhhhhhh"
(The final tweet, for anyone unfamiliar, is a reference to a Lil Wayne lyric.)
In interviews after the game, Pujols said repeatedly that Morgan didn't especially bother him—that, in fact, he appreciates Morgan's style. "I actually like the guy, man," Pujols said. "I don't mind having a guy like that on my team. He brings a lot of energy to a ball club. You wanna have a guy like that."
Tony La Russa, for his part, said he hopes Morgan "gets a clue," to which Morgan responded, "Who cares?"
Somewhere out there, there is probably a diary entry signed by the Brewers outfielder that ends with the phrase, "They're not the boss of me!"
