Michigan Football Recruit: "Until I Die, I'm Gonna Be A Buckeye Fan." This Ought To Go Over Well.
National Signing Day is more than just a day for adults to lose their minds over where 17-year-old boys decide to attend college. It's also a day for the media to lap up quotes like "I'm really excited to attend School X," "School Y just seemed like a good fit," and "Coach Z just seems like a great guy." Every now and then, however, something more than a 17-year-old boy trying on a sweatshirt happens during one of those silly press conferences.
Defensive back Reon Dawson had switched his commitment from Illinois to Michigan three weeks ago, and yesterday he formally signed with the Wolverines. Dawson, who lives in Trotwood, Ohio, had wanted to go to Ohio State, but the Buckeyes never offered him a scholarship. Not that it left him with any hard feelings.
From the :
"Until I die, I'm gonna be a Buckeye fan even though I'm going (to Michigan). When we play (OSU) I'm gonna still bring my ‘A' game. But, I love Ohio State."
Hoo boy. I'm sure we can expect Michigan fans to respect Dawson's honesty, to understand where he's coming from, and to treat his genuine feelings with the utmost resp—ah, shit. I just looked at some of the comments on Yahoo's story about Dawson's remarks. Seriously, best of luck in Ann Arbor, kid.
