High Schooler Shot In Leg, Hits Playoff Game-Winner Days Later
Chicago high school senior Tyquone Greer wasn't sure he could even play basketball again after a bullet went completely through his leg at a neighborhood party last week. But only nine days later, Greer sank the game-winning shot for Orr Academy High School (Ill.) over North Chicago.
Greer didn't play in the sectional semi-final and played for only a minute in the sectional final last Friday, spending most of his time recovering. He played his first substantial minutes Tuesday against North Chicago, checking in from the second quarter but not taking any shots.
The senior had one field goal on one attempt. With the score tied at 68 and three seconds remaining, Greer hit a corner three to give Orr the victory.
From the Chicago Tribune:
"This could have been our last game and I wanted to make my presence felt," Greer said. "For me to take that shot, God planned it for me because he has some better stuff for me. I knew I was going to make it. I was very confident.
"My leg was still kind of shaky, but this could have been our last game so I wanted to be out there. If we lost, I wanted to make sure that I was on the court with my team. That's all that really mattered."
Orr's next game is the state finals on Friday. According to CBS Chicago, Greer doesn't expect to see much time in that game.
