A Tearful Dustin Brown Retires From Match After Back Injury
Germany’s Dustin Brown, the wackiest motherfucker in tennis, was only three points away from winning his first-round match at Montpellier against Nicolas Mahut when a crafty one-handed, backhand passing shot appeared to cause his back to seize up. He took a few steps and then collapsed. Mahut didn’t go full Grigor and hurdle the net to get to Brown’s side, but it’s never a good sign when the opponent crosses the court to check on the injured player.
After going to the locker room, a visibly emotional Brown had to limp back out to the court to concede the match and get his things, which makes me wonder—couldn’t someone have helped the poor guy out and at least carried his bag for him?
