Florida? Ohio? Wrong! This one happened in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and in the neighboring cities of Camden and Philadelphia. It began with a cop in Camden making a routine traffic stop for a vehicle violation just before 10 a.m., only to have his unattended cruiser stolen by a man and a woman who managed to strike him with the car as they drove off, injuring his leg. With additional cops in pursuit, the couple—with the woman at the wheel—made a run for the border by dashing across the Delaware River into Philly via the Ben Franklin Bridge. (No word on whether they stopped to pay the toll.)
The unidentified Bonnie and Clyde eventually crashed the police car in a neighborhood not far from the bridge and tried to make a run for it. Police were able to apprehend the man, but as they did so, the woman hopped into one of the Philly cop cars and took off again! Resourceful! She struck several other vehicles as cops again gave chase before she was finally caught a few blocks away. "I've never heard of anybody stealing two police cars in the same incident," said Richard Ross Jr., Philly's deputy police commissioner, who described the woman as "bold, reckless, and absolutely brazen." The injured cop is reportedly in stable condition at a Camden hospital.
Update (9:16 p.m.): The couple has been identified as Blake Bills, 24, and Shayna Sykes, 23, of Macungie, Pa. This is a photo of them:
And this is video of most of the chase that took place in Philly. Right at the beginning, it looks like another person was hit with the police car:
