Antoine Walker Is Retiring After Two Seasons With The Idaho Stampede
Easter Sunday was the day for resurrection. But today is not Easter Sunday. Today is Monday. No one gets resurrected on Monday. And so today is the day that Antoine Walker officially retires from basketball.
Reports the Idaho Statesman:
Antoine Walker, a three-time NBA All-Star, has decided to end his basketball career after playing two seasons with the Idaho Stampede.
Walker, 35, announced his retirement in the Stampede locker room after Idaho defeated Bakersfield 97-96 on Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena. ...
This season, Walker played 44 games (17 starts) with Idaho, averaging 9.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists. In all, Walker played 87 games with the Stampede.
Perhaps one assumes this is a sad way for Walker to go, finishing his career by coming off the bench for a D-League club in Boise, making only two of his eight shots in his final game. Perhaps you would rather him win a ring while the twelfth or thirteenth man on the Heat bench.
But, as we reported last weekend, the former All-Star just emerged triumphant from bankruptcy proceedings. Money problems have come to define Walker in recent years, more so than bad three-point attempts or surprising rebounding totals. We know him more as a broke dude than as a basketball player. So, now, he, no longer broke, is going out on top. Congratulations.
