As Boston Globe Dies, One Boston Herald Columnist Reveals Himself To Be A Towering Douche
Regardless of any silly notions about Deadspin being anti-newspaper, it's unfathomable to think that many of our hometown papers we all grew up with could be obsolete in the next couple of years.
The Boston Globe is hanging on for dear life and is nowhere close toward reaching a budget agreement with the New York Times Co. Even if the paper survives, it won't be the same publication New Englanders are used to and many, many people will be unemployed. Newspaper rivalries are natural occurrences, especially when there are two major dailies in a region. Yet, the entire newspaper business in trouble, so even the most bitter and contentious rivals should probably sheath their swords out of respect for their industry and, mostly, respect for the job losses incurred. That's what makes this latest column by the Boston Herald's Howie Carr so epically cocksuckerish:
The Boston Globe is dying this weekend, one way or the other. It probably lingers on a while longer, on life support, a Terri Schiavo of journalism, but this comedy is ending the way it was destined to.
Labor is caving, management is winning. Pinch Sulzberger, it so predictably turns out, is only a liberal with other people's money. So now the rich kids in New York do away with seniority and the "lifetime" job guarantees for their fellow silver spoons in Boston.
Sorry, comrades. The Velvet Coffin is being shoved into the crematorium. Maybe you can get a job from Barack Obama.
Read the whole thing. It's worth it.
