Big news for The Last of Us fans—here’s what to expect in Season 2
The wait is almost over! After its critically acclaimed first season in 2023, The Last of Us is making a much-anticipated return to HBO. Fans of the hit video game adaptation are buzzing with excitement. Here’s what we know so far about Season 2!
Release Date and Where to Watch
HBO Max President David Zaslav confirmed back in March 2024 that The Last of Us Season 2 will premiere in early 2025. Now, we have official dates: April 13, 2025, in the U.S. and April 14, 2025, in France.
Until then, fans are dissecting every frame of the latest trailer, eager for any hints about what’s to come. As expected, the new season will stream on Max, available via MyCANAL and Prime Video. However, watching it on Prime Video will require a Max Pass subscription, which costs $3 per month.
A Darker, More Intense Storyline
Season 2 will closely follow the plot of The Last of Us Part II, the 2020 sequel to the original game. Showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have confirmed a five-year time jump, but Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie) will reprise their roles. Mazin also revealed that makeup and special effects will play a key role in making the characters' aging look natural on screen.
This season will see Ellie take the lead as she embarks on a relentless quest for revenge, which will drastically change her character. Themes of violence, loss, and survival will remain central, with intense encounters against both infected creatures and other survivors. If you’ve played the game, you know a major, heartbreaking event is coming—but don’t worry, we won’t spoil it here.
Returning Stars and an Even More Ambitious Adaptation
Despite the time jump, the core cast is back for Season 2. According to Mazin and Druckmann, this new season will be even more ambitious and emotionally complex than the first, with deeper storytelling and striking cinematography.
And fans are already buzzing—especially after a mysterious new character appeared in the trailer, sparking plenty of speculation.
One thing’s for sure: Season 2 is shaping up to be an unforgettable ride.
