It might not — yet — have the online fanaticism and cachet of baseball, but the NFL and its fans are starting to catch up in the world of team-devoted blogs. To this end, Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each NFL team. There are fewer than there are for baseball, but they're out there, if you look. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours, even) for selection, just let us know at email@example.com. Today: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
To be truthful, we kind of miss the old days — the Buccaneers, born in 1976, went 0-26 before they ever won a game. The orange uniforms. The helmet logo (Errol Flynn clutching a dagger in his teeth). Later, quarterback Steve Young, who just took off and ran on every passing play. And the famous quote by head coach John McKay, when asked by a reporter what he thought of his team's execution: "I'm in favor of it."
Today, we have Raymond James Stadium, with the storefront facades, the fake pirate ship and those pewter uniforms — it's like a trip to Disneyland. Very fake, very contrived. Of course, Buccaneers' fans might disagree. They've embraced their team in their zillions of blogs and fan sites, three of which we proudly bring to your attention here.
3. Buccaneers Bounty. Many news sites contain great blogs, and this is one of them.
2. Bucpower. Many were confused when Bucs' owner Malcolm Glazer suddenly bought the soccer team Manchester United recently. But there's been a weird connection between Brits, the Bucs and the Glazers since the 1980s, as proven by this site, based in England.
1. Buc Stats. Somewhat of a misnomer; this is a great blog in addition to being a great site for stats.
