Cam Newton, Goddamn

Cam Newton had another excellent game yesterday, tearing up the Falcons with an easy 265 yards and three touchdowns. The highlight of the day was the touchdown throw above, which only gets more ridiculous with each viewing.

There are few things in sports as fun to watch as a quarterback who has reached this level of mastery. Every football play is an attempt to organize widespread chaos, to overcome the flurry of limbs and bodies with precise angles and perfect timing. When you really think about everything that goes into completing just a simple slant route, it’s a wonder every quarterback isn’t a struggling Brian Hoyer type. And then here comes a guy like Cam Newton, turning all that frantic madness into something gorgeous with one perfect throw. This is as good as football gets.
