Chase Utley's Inside-The-Park Homer Is Better Than Anything That Happened In Your Game Tonight
The best part (or worst, if you're a Braves or Mets fan) of all of this is just how excited the crowd, and the announcer, gets. It's late in the game. Philly's already up 5-1, over the Giants, whose 3.62 runs scored per game is the worst among all division leaders. Philly's also got the NL East salted away, at 64-37—now 65-37—despite its injuries. Hell, Vance Worley was in the process of throwing a complete game to advance to 7-1 and drop his ERA to 2.02. There wasn't all that much at stake on this play.
And yet they're hooting and hollering like they just won the pennant. Amazing. Good for them. That pennant's getting closer.
