CNN Cuts Short Its Awkward Interview With John Carlos Because Of Technical Difficulties
Former Olympian and current human rights crusader John Carlos has a new book out with The Nation's Dave Zirin, which we excerpted last week. Carlos has been lending his support to the Occupy Wall Street movement, and this morning, CNN booked him for an interview with Kyra Phillips. The conversation never got past Phillips's questions about the 1968 Olympics, however, in part because Carlos had to correct her assertion that he had been stripped of his medal—something he has long maintained isn't true.
There's also an awkward exchange about Phillips's use of the phrase "black power." The interview is eventually cut short due to what Phillips said were technical difficulties and/or time constraints. But if CNN knew it was under such a time crunch, why didn't it make a priority of asking Carlos right away about Occupy Wall Street?
