Well, this is awkward. Donald Hill-Eley has been the head football coach at Morgan State, an FCS school in Baltimore, since 2002. The Bears are coming off a 3-8 season that ended with six consecutive losses. Hill-Eley, 43, told the Baltimore Sun he hasn't been given any official indication about his future. But on Tuesday, he got an idea, when he was accidentally sent an email detailing the school's plan to get rid of him.
"I don't know what's going on," Hill-Eley said when reached today on his cell phone. A university spokesman said he had no immediate comment about Hill-Eley's status.
The coach said he has faced greater expectations to win since David Wilson became the university's president two years ago but said he has not received the bump in resources he would need to achieve that goal. He said four assistant coaches, for example, don't receive health benefits from the university.
Yes, there was a shooting on the Morgan State campus within the last hour. No, the disgruntled football coach is not a suspect.
