Eagles Nearly Traded For Colin Kaepernick, Drafted Russell Wilson
In the annals of NFL what-ifs, here are two gigantic, NFC-altering ones.
According to a report from Adam Schefter, the Eagles were on the verge of trading a second-round pick for Colin Kaepernick before the 2012 draft. This was when the 49ers were coming off a conference championship appearance, and were prepared to go forward with Alex Smith, so Kaepernick was expendable.
Why didn't the trade go through? Schefter says the Eagles decided instead to take Russell Wilson in the 2012 draft. Philadelphia "geared their whole draft around" selecting Wilson in the third round, league sources said. But Seattle torpedoed that by taking Wilson 13 spots before Philly's pick, forcing the Eagles to settle for Nick Foles.
