Action Hero Bradley Zimmer Lays Out For Tremendous Diving Grab
Ryan LaMarre of the Twins smashed a ball deep to left center in the second inning of today’s Indians-Twins game, where it very much had the look of a standup RBI double. That was before Indians centerfielder Bradley Zimmer came soaring in for the acrobatic highlight grab:
Zimmer is a blast in the field, a fun, high-flying outfielder who throws his body around heroically in occasionally ill-advised efforts to take away extra base hits. He sent himself to the disabled list last month when he wiped himself out of a game crashing into the outfield wall at Yankee Stadium in an unsuccessful attempt to rob an Austin Romine double:
Zimmer’s daring, reckless outfield play will occasionally produce genuinely outstanding catches, like today’s. Saturday was his first action since May 9; today he’s hurling himself at the heavens to rob a double in the gap. Probably he should be a little easier on his skeleton! But it makes for some bitchin’ baseball.
