Bills GM Says Richie Incognito's Alleged Racist Slurs Were "A Misunderstanding"
Photo: Brett Carlsen/ [object Object] Bills offensive guard Richie Incognito was accused by Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue of using racist slurs during Jacksonville’s playoff defeat of Buffalo on Sunday. But Bills GM Brandon Beane didn’t seem to think much of any potential in-game exchange between the two.
“I think there’s a misunderstanding of what was said,” Beane said at his end-of-season press conference today. “From what I understand, it was a little bit of on-the-field stuff, back and forth.”
The NFL is looking into the accusation, which is consistent with previous behavior from and stories about Incognito. Warren Sapp has said that Incognito once called him a “nigger” in a game in the hopes of baiting Sapp into a penalty, while Incognito has also been caught on video yelling that word. Incognito also once reportedly called former teammate Jonathan Martin a “half-nigger” as part of his harassment of the former Dolphins’ lineman.
Ngakoue said Monday that he couldn’t specifically remember if Incognito had used the N-word, but added that Incognito “knows what he said. I don’t have to repeat it.”
