Bosnia, Up 2-0, Is Beating The USMNT's Ass Right Now [UPDATE: Welp...]
So, Bosnia-Herzegovina is currently smacking the shit of the U.S. Men's National Team.
It's just a friendly, but they look faster, stronger, more organized, more compact in the back, more clinical in front of goal. They just look better.
At half, they're leading the United States 2-0 after a goal from Manchester City's Edin Džeko, and a close-range finish from Vedad Ibišević (who grew up in the United States and won NCAA Freshman of the Year at Saint Louis University in 2003 before moving over to Europe, and ostensibly could've been playing for the Americans today if we didn't completely overlook him as youth, but whatever), seen above. Honestly, this was always going to be a tough game, because the USMNT is playing away, and are missing some of their players, and the Bosnians are ranked higher for a reason. But USA is getting manhandled.
Ibišević's goal was the result of an elementary play. After a corner kick was cleared wide, the Bosnian players recycled their runs for a second cross in the box. When the cross came, Ibišević beat his defender near post and redirected a header past keeper Tim Howard. Bush league shit, really.
Barring any foolery, the Americans' 11-game win streak is going to end today. And actually, that's OK. But what's more concerning is how poorly they're performing against Bosnia, who represent the caliber of competition that'll be waiting for the USMNT next summer in Brazil. Even if a result tonight was always going to be difficult, it's never good to see a team get manhandled all over the pitch.
UPDATE: Foolery has occurred, and now the United States are even with Bosnia, 2-2. Minutes after Jozy Altidore assisted an Eddie Johnson goal, he scored a great left-footed strike from the top of box that tucked just inside the far post to beat the Bosnian keeper. Altidore has now scored in five straight games for the United States, and is tentatively the truth. Don't tread.
