Jefferson Montero Scores One Of The Greatest Hat Tricks You'll See
Sure, someone at some point might have scored a better hat trick than this one, we guess, because odds. We just can't think of any.
Jefferson Montero is an Ecuadorian winger for Morelia, a team in the Mexico's Liga MX. His side took on Toluca yesterday in a thrilling match, but everyone came away talking about Montero's three goals. They're all just foolish.
For his first goal, the Ecuadorian chased down a through ball, saving it from going over the end line on the left side of the box. When he recovered, he saw that the defender had failed to close him all the way down. With no passing options, it would've probably been wiser to restart the attack by playing a pass back to a midfielder or defender in support, but for some reason, Montero decided to shoot. So with his right foot from no angle, he curled a ball over the keeper and into the far side netting.
His second was just as impressive. Montero collected another through pass that beat the Toluca defense on the left about 25 yards from goal. He actually bumbled his first touch, and had to fade further to the left to collect it. But with his second touch, still fading from goal, he chipped a perfect shot with his left foot over the keeper and again into the side netting.
And while his first two goals show his creative and ingenious finishing, his final goal might've been even better. Montero recovered a loose ball on the left side and went on a cutting run into the box, absolutely humiliating one defender before beating two more and banging his third past the keeper with his right.
Based on these goals alone, one could feasibly conclude that Jefferson Montero is far and away the best player in the world. What's sad and kind of hard to believe, however, is that in spite of these goals, Morelia actually lost the match to Toluca, 4-3. Still, this hat trick needs to be remembered. Who's scored a better one than this? Cristiano Ronaldo? Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink? We're still rolling with Montero.
