Juan Uribe Fell For The Hidden-Ball Trick
The Tampa Bay Rays pulled off the hidden-ball trick Saturday, and Juan Uribe was the unfortunate victim.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, A.J. Ellis hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded. Andre Ethier easily scored from third, while Uribe took third and Skip Schumaker advanced to second. James Loney cut off the throw home, so he had the ball and was standing near the pitcher's mound. After the run scored Uribe was chilling on third base, looking down at the ground for some reason. Maybe he was contemplating whether or not it was worth the effort to tie his shoelaces tighter. Who knows.
Anyway, Loney tossed it to shortstop Yunel Escobar; Escobar threw it to third baseman Evan Longoria, who was standing behind Uribe. Uribe was oblivious the entire time, and once he took his foot off the bag for a second, Longoria tagged him and earned the out. Poor Juan Uribe didn't see it coming.
Uribe's teammates poked fun at him after the game:
Despite Uribe falling for the trickery, the Dodgers won, 5-0.
