Packers Cut Martellus Bennett With "Failure To Disclose A Medical Condition" Designation
Photo: Kevin C. Cox/ [object Object] The Green Bay Packers announced today that they’ve cut TE Martellus Bennett, tagging him with the “failure to disclose a medical condition” designation. That label will allow the Packers to potentially reclaim $4.2 million out of Bennett’s signing bonus from when he signed a three-year contract with the team in March.
Bennett, currently in his 10th season, last played on Oct. 22. Since then, he announced during the Packers’ bye week that this would likely be his last NFL season. It’s unclear when Bennett’s “condition” became apparent, but coach Mike McCarthy said last weekend that Bennett was seeking medical opinions about an injured shoulder, and just before the team waived him, Bennett was ruled out of Sunday’s game against Chicago.
Bennett is now on waivers, and if no team claims him by Thursday afternoon, he’ll become a free agent.
