Report: Actually, Josh McDaniels Is Staying With The Patriots [Updated]
Photo: Elsa/ [object Object] After less than nine hours on the job as the official Indianapolis Colts head coach, New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has pulled the plug on his brand new team and decided around to stick around with the Patriots. That’s according to Adam Schefter, who made a fantastic use of the all-caps “NOT” in his breaking tweet.
The Colts, aside from having a potentially unplayable injured star quarterback, now have another coaching vacancy, as well as some very sad tweets.
Update (8:42 p.m. ET): The tweets have been deleted, but here’s one below:
Additionally, the Colts released the following statement:
“After agreeing to contract terms to become the Indianapolis Colts’ new head coach, New England Patriots assistant coach Josh McDaniels this evening informed us that he would not be joining our team. Although we are surprised and disappointed, we will resume our head coaching search immediately and find the right fit to lead our team and organization on and off the field.
The scheduled press conference at Lucas Oil Stadium will not take place tomorrow. More information will be forthcoming.”
Schefter’s published report says that, over the past 48 hours, Patriots owner Robert Kraft was “sweetening his contract, helping to entice McDaniels to remain in New England.” McDaniels was also reportedly uncomfortable with the idea of moving his family out to Indianapolis, and never felt fully confident in his decision.
