The Colts Ended A Dumb Streak In A Dumb Way

Who was the last Indianapolis Colts player to have at least 100 rushing yards in one game? Just kidding, there’s absolutely no reason to know that, but it was Vick Ballard in Week 15 of the 2012 season. Last night, Frank Gore finally snapped the streak. Then unsnapped it. Then resnapped it.
Gore, who was having a decent night against the Texans, had 98 rushing yards with 2:32 left in the game. On first down, he ran the ball to the right side for two yards, giving him 100 flat. The Colts were ready to celebrate:
Two plays later, Gore lost it. The Texans swarmed him on a rush to the left for a loss of one yard. The RB was back to 99, and his team’s neat graphic looked like it would be a waste.
The Colts didn’t run Gore for the rest of the second half; the Texans rallied back from a 14-point deficit and forced overtime after C.J. Fiedorowicz caught a touchdown with 0:49 left in the game. The ideal outcome would have been for the Colts to either win in regulation or immediately lose in overtime, keeping the stupid streak alive with Gore stuck on 99 yards. (I was rooting for this.) But Indianapolis got the ball first in OT, and Gore ran for a seven-yard gain, regaining a triple-digit total.
Congratulations to the Colts, who lost by a field goal but ended a streak that meant nothing. Like the Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver streak, this piece of trivia can now be put to rest, and we can ignore the Colts for the rest of the season.
