Watch Boston Marathon Bombing Heroes Throw Out Tonight's First Pitch
Marathon Bombing survivors Jeff Bauman and Carlos Arredondo were on the mound tonight to throw out the first pitches for the Red Sox game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
If you remember, Bauman, 27, looked in Tamerlan Tsarnaev's eyes as the man placed a bag on the ground, and just moments before both bombs detonated near the finish line. Bauman's legs were both destroyed below the knee.
Arredondo, a 52-year-old peace and anti-war activist, was also attending the the marathon. He saw Bauman on fire and bleeding out. Arredondo beat out the flames out with his bare hands, then helped rush the younger man to medical care. Bauman survived the trip to the hospital. When he woke up, the first thing he did was identify Tsarnaev as one of the bombers.
It's one of the few good stories from such a terrible event, and Red Sox fans got to relive it tonight as Bauman and Arredondo simultaneously threw the game's first pitches. They both reached home plate.
