First-Round NBA Draft Prospect Jonathan Jeanne Diagnosed With Career-Threatening Disorder

Jonathan Jeanne is a 7-foot-2 center from the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe who’s played a bit in the French league and was expected by some to be a first-round pick in the NBA Draft. Jonathan Givony had him going to Brooklyn with the 22nd pick and Chad Ford projected him to be picked by the Raptors at 23, but he might not have a shot at an NBA career, as his agent told The Vertical last night that he’d been diagnosed with Marfan syndrome.
Marfan is a genetic disorder affecting the body’s connective tissue. In 2014, would-be first-round pick Isaiah Austin was also diagnosed with Marfan syndrome, which prevented him from being selected, although he was later cleared by a doctor and signed by a European team. Jeanne’s agent said that he hopes to resume his career one day.
