For 20 Minutes, The Kings Were Historically Dominant
The third period of L.A.'s eventual overtime victory was the Rangers' worst nightmare come to life—the Kings dominating possession as they have all year, forechecking the life out of New York, and raining down shot after shot. How overwhelming was it? Unprecedentedly so.
Damn.
"They shoot pucks from everywhere," Marc Staal said. And yet there was no scoring in the frame, fulfilling the common series prediction that the only thing standing between the Kings and four straight blowouts is Henrik Lundqvist.
The third period did provide one of the postseason's most thrilling sequences (matched only, perhaps, by the entire first overtime of Game 5 of the Kings-Blackhawks series), featuring ridiculous chances on either end with regulation winding down:
