Gay Cruising App Grindr Crashes After Olympians Arrive In London
Well, looky here. Seems Londoners have been having a tough time accessing gay cruising app, Grindr. The cause? The Mirror reports the app suspiciously crashed around the time that Olympians arrived into London:
Technicians believe the arrival of Olympic teams on Monday sparked a flood of new customers — and loss of the service in East London.
One Londoner said: "It happened almost as soon as the teams got here. Either loads of athletes were logging on to meet fellow Olympians or were looking to bag a local.
"The Grindr system obviously couldn't cope. It took 24 hours for the app to get back up and running, much to the relief of all concerned."
We're not exactly sure who "technicians" are, but obviously their credibility is irrelevant to the Mirror (and me, frankly) when a story this delicious presents itself. Obviously there are lots of people arriving in London this week for the Olympics, and it's a little hard to believe that the extremely small handful of gay male Olympians—well, the small handful of openly gay ones—accounted for a citywide outage (Grindr is for dudes meeting dudes). Then again, maybe there's just a ton of closeted gay athletes, and the temptation to bag a London local is too much to resist. Or maybe it's all of London looking for a gay Olympian. Gay chicken, gay egg.
