German Rower Quits Games Over Nazi Boyfriend Allegations
German rower Nadja Drygalla has left the Olympic Village following a media firestorm in her home country about her boyfriend's ties to an extremist right-wing political party. (Drygalla is the third rower from the left seen above.)
Reuters says German media are reporting Drygalla's boyfriend is a leader of the "Rostock National Socialists" and ran for office under the banner of a party Germany's government actually tried to outlaw due to its being inspired by the Nazis.
Drygalla was actually finished competing, and the AP reports she's assured officials she is "committed to the values of the Olympic charter," so it won't have any effect on competition. But you know the Olympics have finally hit their stride now that we have a Nazi boyfriend scandal.
