Glory Days: I Went From Fifth To First In The Last Half-Lap To Make States
An occasional series featuring our readers' tales of momentary sports glory. If you've got a video of your own brush with athletic greatness, send it to [email protected], subject: Glory Days.
This story comes to us from Will, from his days as a high school miler in Missouri. The mile is a four-lap race, and with half a lap remaining, Will looked like he was in trouble. And then he wasn't. Take it away, Will:
I attached a video of the last 200 meters of a mile (1,600 meters) track event from back in 2007. Basically, the top four make it out of sectionals and into the state meet the following weekend. With 200 meters to go, I'm in fifth, well back off the leaders. I'm in all white.
Update (6:32 p.m.): Will's time was 4:29.66, for those track nerds who were wondering.
