Hungary's Hubert Kos kicks to gold in 200 backstroke

PARIS -- Hubert Kos took Hungary's first swimming gold of the Paris Olympics with a stirring performance in the men's 200-meter backstroke on Thursday.
Kos, who attends the University of Texas, finished in 1:54.26 to become Hungary's first gold-medal winner in the event since 1980.
Apostolos Christou held the lead until the final lengths, when Kos kicked past to push his Greek competitor to silver. Switzerland's Roman Mityukov won the bronze.
The United States failed to medal in the event for the first time since 1992.
