Andre Ellington’s fourth quarter touchdown against Seattle on Sunday sent Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer into a tizzy, pumping his fist and telling the Seahawks crowd to suck it. But after coming in for criticism and with a possible fine looming on the horizon, Palmer says his exulting was directed towards friends in the stands, not Seahawks fans. Via ESPN:
Palmer told ESPN it was a gesture directed at three of his friends who were sitting in the stands behind the Cardinals’ bench. Palmer identified his friends as Pup, Phil and Sugar Cane. The gesture was caught by cameras during NBC’s broadcast of the game, and has gone viral.

“I had my buddies in the sideline, right four or five rows up,” Palmer said. “I saw them pretty excited and [that] got me excited to see them excited.”
Wait wait wait, hold up, I don’t give a shit about his celebration anymore. Pup, Phil, and Sugar Cane? Seriously? Palmer has friends named Pup, Phil, and Sugar Cane? Are all of those nicknames, or are none of them? Is the 35-year-old, married with children Palmer secretly in a fraternity? Did Phil not get a nickname because everyone secretly hates him? Does anyone ever call Pup “P-Dawg”? What’s the backstory behind Sugar Cane? Does Palmer also have a nickname, and what is it? I need answers, people.
