Ireland Player Stretchered Off Pitch After Losing Consciousness In Clash Of Heads
Ireland’s Robbie Brady and Georgia’s Saba Kvirkvelia had a nasty head collision in a World Cup Qualifier today, with the game being delayed a solid five minutes while doctors treated the two players. Brady came out worse, as he lost consciousness for a few seconds and had to be taken off of the pitch on a stretcher.
Kvirkvelia too suffered injury, the clash opening a sizable cut on the back of his head that required a substantial amount of bandaging. ESPN commentator Taylor Twellman took issue with the handling of Kvirkvelia and FIFA’s general lack of a sufficient concussion protocol, noting that while Brady obviously couldn’t continue on in the match, Kvirkvelia was simply patched up and stayed in the game.
