Joe Musgrove Reheats The Pirates-Cubs Beef, But Only A Little Bit So It's Still Cold In The Center
The Pirates made it seem like they had moved past Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo’s “ illegal but not dirty” slide into catcher Elias Diaz in Monday’s game, but in the third inning last night Joe Musgrove put the beef in the microwave for about 30 seconds. The Pittsburgh pitcher slid hard into Chicago infielder Javier Baez on Josh Harrison’s grounder and prompted an animated conversation. Joe, the beef hasn’t been reheated all the way through!
The dugouts cleared, but no one actually did anything. Baez and Musgrove appeared to make up on the spot. Cubs manager Joe Maddon had a smile on his face as the scene unfolded, and after the game he talked about how funny the situation was to him. From The Athletic:
“Loved it. I thought it was rather humorous, actually,” Maddon said. “Because it was nothing going on. It was absolutely a non-descript nothing.”
The next series between the two teams starts June 8. Let’s get this beef edible.
