Jury Awards Victims $11 Million in Pacman Jones Case
Welp, it looks like Adam Jones can amend his Scared Straight syllabus. A jury has awarded the victims in that Las Vegas shooting case $11 million in damages. Predictably, the opposing attorneys each have a different take.
Jones's lawyer: good luck collecting on such an absurd amount, my client doesn't even get paid until September.
She said Jones, who has played five years in the NFL, didn't have the cash to cover the award because he won't receive his first paycheck of the season until September.
"It's obviously a devastating amount for him financially," Rasmussen said. "He has really worked hard to make a comeback with his NFL career. He doesn't make enough money to pay that judgment."
The attorney for one of the victims, injured bouncer Aaron Cudworth, thinks this is a victory for the little guy over celebrities.
"I am pleased that Mr. Jones has finally been held accountable," Schonfeld said, adding that his client "is pleased to have closure."
Schonfeld said he wasn't worried about an appeal or Jones' alleged inability to pay the award.
"If he is making money, I am going to be there trying to collect," Schonfeld said.
He added, "They've got to clean up their acts. All of them."
Pacman's attorney said they will be appealing the verdict. So, the victims get a taste of what an NFL contract is like. "Here's $11 million (just kidding, though, not really!)."
