Kansas Jayhawks Do The World A Favor, Knock Out Duke
The Kansas Jayhawks accomplished a much-needed task today as they eliminated Mick Krizilonski and Duke in an 85-81 overtime win. The Blue Devils can settle for an Elite Eight appearance and get their dreadful visages off everyone’s TVs. Fuck off!
The Jayhawks trailed 72-69 for almost a minute in the second half before Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk hit a game-tying three-pointer with 27 seconds left. Duke senior and aggravating nuisance Grayson Allen found a way to get off one of those shitty little bank shots to try and win in regulation, but the ball rimmed out twice and the game went to overtime.
Kansas pulled away in OT thanks to sophomore guard Malik Newman, who finished with a game-high 32 total points and had all of the Jayhawks’ 13 in overtime. With under 30 seconds left and the Jayhawks up five, Allen heaved a three, missed, got the rebound, heaved another three, missed, and was left to watch the remaining moments of his college basketball career tick away. He finished 3-of-13 from the field and 2-of-9 from three.
Here’s video of the actual moment Duke lost:
Kansas will play Villanova on Saturday. Duke will play no one, because it sucks.
Correction (March 26, 10:48 a.m. ET): This post originally stated that Malik Newman had nine of the Jayhawks’ 13 points in overtime; he actually had all 13.
