Little Leaguer: ESPN Changed My Player Bio To List My Favorite Show As SportsCenter Instead Of The Dan Patrick Show [UPDATE: It Was A Gag]
Will Lucas from Fairfield, Conn., threw a no-hitter in the Little League World Series yesterday and was invited on the The Dan Patrick Show today to talk about it.
And what did we learn? Well, you know how ESPN has mini-bios of each of these players? They include little fun facts like "favorite player" or "favorite food" or, say, "favorite show." Patrick asked the 12-year-old what his favorite show was (audio is above).
I said The Dan Patrick Show but for some reason they made it SportsCenter.
Oof. We went through a few of Fairfield's games and couldn't find an instance in which Lucas's favorite show was included (his nickname is apparently Thrill and his favorite player is Andrew McCutchen). Maybe the producers over at The Dan Patrick Show asked him to say this to rib The Borg? Maybe ESPN producers let little Will look at what they planned on airing and then never aired it? Maybe we just missed it?
But ... your turn, ESPN. It's your word against a local 12-year-old's.
UPDATE, 1 p.m.: And never mind. We had a note out to the DP Show and they just got back to us saying it was a gag and "we were all just kidding." Won't someone think of the children?
