Mets Games Plastered With Commercials From This Charming Bankruptcy Lawyer
Everything about this commercial is just so Wilpon-era Mets: Attorney Pankin's accent, his super-starchy collar, his gait, forced as though Tsuyoshi Shinjo's lucky bat is wedged up his ass. And of course the graphics are old, schmaltzy—the only surprise is that they don't evoke the glory days of the Brooklyn Dodgers, circa Fred Wilpon's bris.
So, logically, they're all over SNY Mets broadcasts of late.
But some of you would fixate on the oozing irony, which, I suppose, is to be expected. Here are some owners, prostrate before their creditors, told by a slick fellow that bankruptcy isn't the end, it's the beginning. Which you know is what Omar Minaya had to say about Livan Hernandez's 23 starts in 2009. And which is why David Pankin, Brooklyn Law School '93, will replace Sandy Alderson, Harvard Law School '76, as Mets GM before the year is up.
