Michigan Outfielder Robs Would-Be Walkoff Homer In NCAA Tournament
Michigan outfielder Lindsay Doyle snagged a line drive at the wall to preserve a 5-4 Wolverines win over Arizona State last night at the NCAA softball regionals in Tempe.
The Sun Devils had a runner at first in the bottom of the final frame in an attempt to seize back a lead they'd lost a half-inning before in a two-run Michigan rally. And when ASU catcher Amber Freeman made that two-out contact, you wouldn't blame the Sun Devils faithful for thinking they'd made that comeback. Even Michigan coach Carol Hutchins appeared shocked by Doyle's catch.
Michigan will face eighth-seeded Florida State in the super regionals.
