Misty May-Treanor Gets A Wheaties Box—Without Kerri Walsh Jennings (UPDATE)
Good morning, Kerri Walsh Jennings! What's for breakfast? Oh, just a big steaming bowl of poop, courtesy of General Mills. No Wheaties for you.
Yesterday, Wheaties unveiled two Olympic boxes, one featuring Michael Phelps, and one with three-time gold medalist Misty May-Treanor. Two worthy Olympians, to be sure, but only one of them happens to play a team sport. And sure, maybe Walsh Jennings only has two AVP MVP awards to May-Treanor's four, and one FIVB MOP award to May-Treanor's two. And yeah, maybe May-Treanor is retiring, while Walsh Jennings hopes to stick around until the next Olympics. But they're a team! A team of two! There had to be room. It's not like squeezing the women's gymnastics squad on a box by leaving off Kyla Ross (which is totally going to happen).
Maybe Walsh Jennings should have married a crappy catcher if she wanted real fame.
Update: Mystery solved! Walsh Jennings has a deal with Kellogg's. As do Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, and McKayla Maroney. Wheaties is totally losing the market share of Olympians.
